Gateway to set up CFS, warehouse at Krishnapatnam Port
Gateway Distriparks Limited, a port-based logistics firm, will set up a container freight station (CFS) and warehouse at Krishnapatnam Port near Nellore in Andhra Pradesh.
A CFS is a facility licensed by the customs department to help decongest a port by shifting containerized cargo and carrying out customs-related activities outside the port area.
Gateway Distriparks has acquired about 48 acres of land near Nellore in Andhra Pradesh for setting up a CFS and warehouses, the company said in a statement.
Gateway Distriparks operates two CFS each in Jawaharlal Nehru Port near Mumbai and Chennai Port and one CFS each at Vishakhapatnam and Kochi ports.
With a facility in Krishnapatnam Port, Gateway Distriparks will expand its footprint to secure more business from importers and exporters of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and bordering areas of Karnataka including Bangalore.
The proposed CFS at Krishnapatnam port will be Gateway Distripark’s seventh CFS and is strategically located between Chennai and Vishakhapatnam ports.
Prem Kishan Gupta, chairman and managing director of Gateway Distriparks, said the container logistics sector in India has been growing with new ports developing clean cargo and container terminals.
Gupta said that “This will be our second offering to the export-import trade of Andhra and Telangana. It will be developed as a world class CFS with facility for clearance and storage of containerized imports and exports. We will start the construction of CFS soon which will provide domestic tariff area (DTA) warehousing facility for consolidation of cargo as well as distribution solutions. This activity will complement the CFS business.”
