Truck Operators Go On Strike To Decrease Entry Hours
DEMAND TO DECREASE ENTRY HOURS IN NATIONAL CAPITAL
Tempo and mini truck operators protested at Jantar Mantar and sat on an indefinite hunger strike. They have demanded the government to decrease entry hours in the national Capital. Their other demands are withdrawal of Green Tax, allow use of 10 years of old vehicles and not to introduce a private company for issuing fitness certificate to tempos and mini trucks.
The strike was called by the All-Delhi Tempo and Mini Truck Owners Union that has enrolled about 80, 000 trucks. Krishan Gaur, general secretary of the union, said a delegation of the union would submit a memorandum to the government on Monday.
“If the demands are not met, the union members will take out a march from Samta Sthal to Delhi Sachivalaya,” he said.He said earlier the entry timing of trucks in Delhi was 9 pm and now it had been increased to 11 pm. The truck drivers were not allowed to drive in the morning till 9 am, and it was now reduced to 7 am.
“The government is doing injustice with the truck operators,” he said.
He said during the Assembly elections, AAP had assured that if it was voted to power it would work for the betterment of transporters in the NCR.
“But, it has forgotten its assurances. Since it has come to power, it has been doing everything against the truck operators,” he added.
