Green Hydrogen Initiative Set to Transform India’s Transportation Sector, Says Mustafa Wajid
New Delhi: Mustafa Wajid, Co-Founder of emerging E-Mobility platform BILLIONe, expressed a very positive outlook on the Indian government’s Green Hydrogen mission. Highlighting its potential to revolutionize the transportation sector after its first application in industrial processes, Wajid, speaking at the ‘NDTV World Summit’, highlighted the government’s strategic focus on the use of hydrogen in industries such as steel. and fertilizer is an important first step.
Wajid noted that it is expected that the adaptability of green hydrogen will expand greatly. Because the next phase is aimed at the transportation sector. This is especially true for large cars that need to travel long distances. “I believe this change will significantly increase the use of green hydrogen,” he said, adding that the development of this technology will be critical in addressing environmental concerns related to the transportation industry.
However, Wajid cautions that the economic feasibility of introducing green hydrogen in transportation remains a key factor. “The logistics industry is very cost sensitive,” he explains, so the availability, accessibility, and affordability of climate green will determine its adoption in the market.” The long-term success of this initiative depends on how economically viable green hydrogen can be compared to conventional fossil fuels.

Wajid also discussed the expected growth of electric vehicles (EVs) in India. It is expected to grow significantly in the next two to three years. He points to opportunities for integrating green electricity with electric cars. To create a sustainable ecosystem that reduces reliance on fossil fuels. “This holistic approach will help ensure that our transportation methods are sustainable and environmentally friendly,” he added.
BILLIONe is committed to reducing the use of petroleum products in transportation. The sector currently consumes about 150 million metric tonnes of petrol and diesel per year in India. Wajid said, “We are actively working to address this challenge through the deployment of electric vehicles to promote Sustainable transport solutions consistent with the mission”.
As urbanization and consumerism increase, India’s transportation needs have also tripled in just three years. This was primarily driven by Wajid’s insights on the growing e-commerce sector at the summit. It points out that with the right policies and technological advances, Green Hydrogen missions can play an important role.
