Sources said NHAI has sent the proposal to increase the cashback to 5% to encourage more commuters to go for digital payment of the user fee. The highways ministry has already asked the NHAI to enable all toll lanes across NH network to process FASTag before December as it plans to allow only the tagged vehicles to use the toll lanes. Only one lane on each side will be kept for some more months where cash payment will be allowed.

“We have taken several steps in the past few months to increase the availability of the tags at toll plazas, petrol pump and people can order them from Amazon. We are also confident of completing the task of equipping all toll lanes with electronic toll collection system,” said an NHAI official.
