Recently, a tehsildar from Umred dangled on a truck, which was illegally carrying sand, for almost 15 km while the driver continued to speed up the tipper truck to evade action. Channe, who visited the city office of regional transport office on Friday, directed the RTOs Shripad Wadekar and Bajrang Kharmate to act tough against transporters indulging in plying of overloaded commercial vehicles.

He also said the department has doubled the revenue targets of all regional transport offices across the state.

“To meet the target, RTOs and their respective flying squads will have to remain on their toes by taking penal action against overloaded commercial vehicles in the state,” he said.

To a query, he said his office is already investigating the issue of learning licence scam that rocked Nagpur City office. TOI was the first to expose how assistant motor vehicle inspectors from city RTO conducted learner’s licence (LL) tests after office hours and on government holidays.

Besides this, the inquiry of 36 suspended Motor Vehicle Inspectors, is also in progress, the transport commissioner said.
