Eicher goes green with new CNG trucks

To strengthen its green energy portfolio, India’s fourth-largest commercial vehicle maker, Volvo Eicher Commercial Vehicles (VECV), has launched two CNG trucks in the Eicher Pro 1000 series.
This is in line with the ‘clean fuel corridor’ laid down by the government across the northern belt. The eastern peripheral expressway is a 135 km, six-lane expressway that outlines Delhi-NCR. It is dubbed as the first smart and green highway conceived for keeping trucks and state buses from gridlocking the city.
The two CNG truck variants have been introduced in Delhi, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh markets. They will be available across India in various cargo body options, from 10 feet to 14 feet. They are aimed to capture the last mile delivery segment of customers in the green corridor of Delhi-NCR, the company said in a statement.
VECV, a joint venture between Volvo Group and Eicher Motors, sees the CNG version as the most relevant upgrade for customers and city transporters, and ideal for intra-city distribution.
“We have the most comprehensive CNG range in the light and medium duty (LMD) segment. Last year, we sold close to 3,000 units and recorded a growth of close to 80%,” said Shyam Maller, executive vice-president, LMD Trucks and Buses, VECV.
Eicher’s Pro 1049 and Pro 1059 CNG trucks are one of its most successful products in the light and medium category. The new Eicher Pro 1000 CNG versions are expected to be more fuel efficient with a low maintenance cost.
“Aligning with the business ambitions of the customers and providing lifetime profitability in the segment, the new CNG variants offers exciting new features and an engaging purchase experience to be an economic, friendly choice for customers,” Maller added.
