Heavy vehicles entry into Vijayawada banned

The state government has decided to divert the heavy vehicles totally without allowing them into Vijayawada city. Already, the police, transport, roads &  buildings departments have been asked to prepare an action plan especially to divert the Howrah-Chennai bound trucks and other heavy vehicles. It gives a major relief to the city traffic movement.

As per the plan, the heavy vehicles will not be allowed into the city permanently form now on. Shifting of Autonagar and utilisation of truck terminal are actively under consideration to totally ban the entry of heavy vehicles.

According to sources, the state government is constructing two flyovers at Durga temple and Benz Circle in the city. Following the frequent traffic disruptions and increase in the number of vehicles, the need for constructing more flyovers have increased after the starting of capital construction works in Amaravati.

The works of two flyover bridges began long ago and traffic movement was totally banned by authorities at Durga temple flyover. Similarly, the flyover works are disrupting the traffic movement at Benz Circle from ongoing works which occupied some part of bottle neck road stretch from Screw Bridge Centre to Ramavarapupadu Centre.

The road stretch is congested from regular heavy traffic but the flyover works added some more challenges to citizens. MLA Bonda Umamaheshwara Rao raised the issue in the Assembly by demanding a total ban on the entry of heavy vehicles into the city.

Already, the state government has diverted the vehicles entry temporarily. Now, the official machinery is making efforts to continue the diversion plan permanently. The vehicles will be diverted from Kattipudi-Hanuman Junction-Pamarru-Avanigadda towards Chennai route while Howrah bound vehicles are being diverted from Ongole-Chilakaluripet to Avanigadda Bridge.

Similarly, Howrah-Hyderabad bound vehicles were diverted from the Inner Ring Road and outer ring roads under this proposal to complete the plan as early as possible. Krishna District Deputy Transport Commissioner Meher Prasad said the police department has launched the traffic diversion plan on the instructions of the state government.

Speaking to The Hans India here on Friday, he said that the vehicles plying on the Chennai-Howrah route would cross Krishna river through Avanigadda bypass. Erstwhile VGTM VUDA Chairman Tumaati Premnath said that the VUDA constructed a truck terminal at Ibrahimpatnam for avoiding heavy vehicles entry into the city.

The truck terminal should be utilised properly, he said and added that the works of shifting of Autonagar also would give a major relief to traffic woes. The state government also was on the job, he added.
