September sees increase in truck freight rates on trunk routes

Strong cargo flows from the agriculture sector and small and medium industry segments given the upcoming festival season saw truck freight rates on trunk routes increase by 4-5%.

According to the Indian Foundation of Transport Research and Training (IFTRT), a 20-25% increase in output of fruits, vegetables, pulses and other food items along with improved factory output by 10-15%, especially from small and medium manufacturing units, resulted in more cargo for the trucking industry, which boosted truck rentals by 4-5% in September.

The month saw increased movement, from production centers to retail markets, of consumer durables, cement, construction materials, paints, automobiles, fertilizers and general merchandise.
