Transport Ministry to launch 2 mobile apps
The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways is set to launch two mobile apps — e-challan and m-parivahan —next week to provide a comprehensive digital solution for enforcement of traffic rules.
Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari will release the apps during the 28th Road Safety Week from January 9-15.
The e-challan app will help traffic police in enforcing transport laws and is integrated with the Vahan and Sarathi applications. It will help in improving transparency by connecting all stakeholders through a common system and ensuring data integrity. It will also help in easing operations and efficient monitoring through digitisation of records and will enhance the visibility of offenders.
The m-parivahan is a citizen-centric app that will facilitate access to various transport-related services. It will provide a virtual driving licence and registration certificates through back-end connection to the transport national register. In this application, if a vehicle number is entered into the app, it will give full details of the car and the owner, including his/her driving licence and registration certificate.
This will help check the genuineness of a vehicle’s ownership and driver and help in passenger safety when hiring a driver or when buying a second-hand vehicle.
The app will also facilitate “good Samaritans” through technology. They can report accidents and traffic violations by clicking pictures.
