March 2024 – Betting on the Future Before Everyone Else Did

Some opportunities arrive only after the market believes in them.

Others require believing in them before the market does.

By early 2024, FASTag had already transformed electronic toll collection across India. But for us, FASTag was never just about toll payments. It was the foundation of an entirely new digital highway ecosystem.

While the industry was focused on issuing FASTags and managing toll deductions, we were looking at a much bigger question.

Can one digital identity of a vehicle power multiple government services without making the vehicle stop anywhere? 

That question became our biggest area of exploration.

Looking Beyond Toll Collection

Around the same time, several state governments had started discussing seamless tax collection and digital mobility infrastructure.

The thought process was simple.

If FASTag could identify a vehicle while it was moving at highway speed, why should commercial vehicles stop separately for different payments?

Road tax.

Entry tax.

Permit verification.

State levies.

Border check-posts.

Every unnecessary stop meant lost productivity for transporters.

Every minute saved meant lower logistics costs for the country.

The idea was no longer about digitizing tolls.

It was about digitizing the entire road movement ecosystem.

Infrastructure Was Ready. The Mindset Needed to Catch Up.

The biggest challenge was not technology.

FASTag had already proven itself.

The challenge was confidence.

Many believed such integrations were too complex.

Some questioned whether states would ever adopt them.

Others felt only large organizations could build such systems.

But as a startup, we looked at it differently.

Innovation begins where doubt exists.

If everyone already believes an idea is possible, it is no longer innovation.

Working With the Ecosystem

Being among the early players in FASTag issuance gave us a unique advantage.

We had been watching the ecosystem evolve from the very beginning.

We understood the operational realities of transporters.

We understood the challenges faced by banks.

We understood the expectations of highway authorities.

And now we were engaging with various government departments and state authorities to explore how this infrastructure could be expanded beyond toll collection.

These conversations were not about selling a product.

They were about building the next layer of India’s digital transport infrastructure.

Thinking Beyond Today

Every major infrastructure revolution starts with one simple question:

“What else can this infrastructure enable?”

FASTag had already answered one problem.

We believed it could solve many more.

A moving vehicle should not have to stop repeatedly for different compliances.

The road should become intelligent enough to recognize, verify, calculate and deduct automatically.

That vision aligned perfectly with the direction India was already moving through the National Logistics Policy, digital governance and intelligent transport systems.

We were not waiting for the future.

We were preparing for it.
