Nalagarh Union suspends movement of trucks

The Nalagarh Truck Operators Union today suspended the movement of its trucks till the Jat stir was on in Haryana as two trucks belonging to the union were burnt down by an agitating mob.

Confirming the news, Vidya Rattan, president of the Nalagarh Truck Operators Union, said they had received confirmation about two trucks having been burnt down while another 1,000 are stuck in various parts of Haryana. Apart from this, about 2,000 trucks were waiting to enter the state from Himachal Pradesh and other neighbouring states since the last about five days.

Rattan said in view of the incident, the union had appealed to the industrialists not to book any trucks till the Jat stir was on as they could not afford to cause further damage to their vehicles. The union had decided to suspend movement of all trucks outside Himachal Pradesh till peace was restored.

Meanwhile, the investors in various industrial areas were forced to slow down their production activity as the inventory of raw materials has been nearly consumed and little material is left.

JS Kang, factory manager at a unit at Baddi, said they would be forced to send their workers on leave now as little material was available to complete production of various products. Since the finished goods had not been lifted, there was no space left to even stock the produced items.

With export orders getting delayed owing to the non-movement of trucks outside the state’s industrial hub of Baddi-Barotiwala-Nalagarh, investors were having anxious movements. Finished goods and raw materials are transported from and to across the country, including Delhi, Jaipur, Gujarat and southern states, from this industrial hub.

The prolonged stir of the Jats has created an indefinite impasse and this is not auguring well for the Indian economy as the manufacturing sector was already facing a downward trend since the past several months, opined Anil Kumar, another investor.
