December 2024: The Year That Made Us Ask Bigger Questions

When we started the TruckSuvidha journey, the problem in front of us looked relatively simple.

There was a truck looking for a load.

Somewhere else, there was a load looking for a truck.

Between the two were hundreds of phone calls, references, brokers, relationships, waiting time and uncertainty.

Our question at that time was simple:

Can technology connect them better?

More than a decade later, as we reached the end of 2024, we found ourselves asking very different questions.

Can a vehicle be identified automatically?

Can a financial transaction happen without stopping the vehicle?

Can FASTag, ANPR and vehicle information work together?

Can different pieces of logistics data communicate instead of remaining in separate systems?

What happens as electric trucks become part of India’s logistics ecosystem?

And most importantly:

What should TruckSuvidha become as transportation itself changes?

December 2024 was not about a new launch.

It was about looking back and realizing how much the questions had changed.

From Finding Trucks to Understanding an Ecosystem

In the initial days of TruckSuvidha, much of our time was spent understanding the basic movement of freight.

Where is the truck?

Where is the load?

Who needs whom?

How can they connect?

How can information travel faster?

Those questions eventually took us deeper into the transportation ecosystem.

We understood that finding a truck was only one part of the journey.

Once a vehicle is placed, somebody wants to know where it is.

That took us towards GPS and vehicle tracking.

Then we started seeing how much time, money and effort were involved in highway transactions.

FASTag became another part of our journey.

COVID then taught us something technology alone could never teach.

No matter how digital logistics becomes, there is still a human being driving that truck.

Our work around truck drivers, transporters and different initiatives during those difficult months strengthened that understanding.

Government and policy interactions gave us another perspective.

We were no longer looking only at what happened inside a transport office.

We started understanding how infrastructure, regulation, banking, technology and transportation were interconnected.

By 2024, the question had become much larger than finding a truck.

2024 Made the Bigger Picture Clearer

This year brought many of those pieces together in our thinking.

Changes in the FASTag ecosystem showed us why clean vehicle identity and disciplined digital infrastructure matter.

Our exploration around ANPR pushed us to think about vehicle identification differently.

When we started testing the possibility of connecting ANPR with FASTag and an actual financial transaction, what looked simple from outside became complicated very quickly.

A number plate could be dirty.

It could be damaged.

It could be incorrectly read.

A vehicle could have data inconsistencies.

A FASTag could have its own history.

And when an actual financial transaction was involved, even a small identification error became important.

This forced us back to something that had been part of TruckSuvidha from the beginning.

Ground research.

More Than a Decade Later, We Were Back on the Road

There was something strangely familiar about 2024.

Technology had changed completely.

Our experience had changed.

The company had changed.

The questions had changed.

But our way of understanding problems had not changed much.

We went back to the ground.

Back to observing vehicles.

Back to talking with people.

Back to understanding processes.

Back to questioning what looked easy in a presentation but became complicated on an actual Indian road.

It reminded us of our initial TruckSuvidha days.

When we did not understand something, we went where the problem existed.

More than a decade later, we were doing the same thing again.

Perhaps that is one part of entrepreneurship that technology can never replace.

The Truck Was Changing Too

At the same time, another change was becoming increasingly visible.

The commercial vehicle ecosystem was beginning to think seriously about electrification.

That opened another set of questions.

A truck of the future might not only have a different fuel source.

It could also interact differently with infrastructure.

Charging would become part of route planning.

Digital payments would become more important.

Vehicle information would become increasingly connected.

Tolling could evolve.

Data could become more central to fleet operations.

Suddenly, FASTag, ANPR, EVs, vehicle information, logistics data and financial transactions did not look like completely separate subjects.

We started seeing them as pieces of a much larger transportation ecosystem.

And that changed our thinking.

Maybe Innovation Is Not About Building Everything

As founders, there is always a temptation to build.

See a problem.

Build a feature.

See another problem.

Build another feature.

But 2024 made us think differently.

India already had several pieces of digital infrastructure.

FASTag existed.

Vehicle databases existed.

Digital payments existed.

ANPR technology existed.

Logistics platforms existed.

New mobility technologies were developing.

Perhaps the opportunity was not always about creating one more independent system.

Perhaps some of the biggest opportunities would come from making existing systems work better together.

That is a very different way of looking at innovation.

Instead of asking:

“What else can we build?”

We started asking:

“What should we connect?”

Not Every Year Needs One Defining Achievement

When founders write about their journeys, there is sometimes pressure to make every year sound extraordinary.

But that is not how entrepreneurship actually works.

Some years give you funding.

Some give you a major customer.

Some give you recognition.

Some give you growth.

Some test your survival.

And some years simply change the way you think.

For us, 2024 was increasingly becoming that kind of year.

We experimented.

We went back to the ground.

We questioned assumptions.

We looked at infrastructure differently.

We saw transportation moving towards electrification and greater digitisation.

We tried to understand how multiple pieces of the ecosystem could eventually work together.

There was no single December announcement that could summarise all of that.

And perhaps there did not need to be.

The Question Changed

When we started this journey, we were asking:

How can we connect a truck with a load?

By the end of 2024, we were asking:

How can a vehicle connect with the entire digital ecosystem around its journey?

The second question is much harder.

It involves technology.

Payments.

Infrastructure.

Regulation.

Data.

Banks.

Government systems.

Transporters.

Drivers.

And ultimately, the road itself.

We did not have all the answers.

After all these years, we had actually become more comfortable admitting that.

Because entrepreneurship is not always about knowing the answer before everyone else.

Sometimes it is about identifying the question that will matter tomorrow.

Closing 2024

There was no dramatic finish to the year.

No single announcement that defined December.

But there was clarity.

TruckSuvidha had started with a problem visible at transport offices and truck stands.

Over the years, that journey had taken us through loads, trucks, GPS, drivers, FASTag, digital payments, policy, ANPR and now the possibilities of a much more connected transportation ecosystem.

The canvas had become much bigger.

As we closed 2024, we did not know exactly where every experiment would lead.

But one thing had remained unchanged from our earliest days.

We were still looking at India’s roads and asking the same fundamental question:

What can we make better?

And perhaps after more than a decade of building TruckSuvidha, that curiosity remained one of the most important parts of our journey.
