Manipur body imposes economic blockade over demand of MGNREGA funds release
AMTDGF President Hesho Lorho and General Secretary Gangonglung Khumba in a jointly signed statement said that the state government’s “adamant stand” not to release sufficient funds for all the districts led a serious economic crisis among the people living in the interior and tribal dominated areas.
All Manipur Tribals Development Grievances Forum (AMTDGF) has clamped an indefinite economic blockade of two vital National Highways.
The organisations are demanding to release adequate funds under the MGNREGA, to all the 16 districts. The National Highway-2 (Dimapur-Imphal) and National Highway-37 (Jiribam-Imphal) are lifeline of Manipur.
AMTDGF President Hesho Lorho and General Secretary Gangonglung Khumba in a jointly signed statement said that the state government’s “adamant stand” not to release sufficient funds for all the districts led a serious economic crisis among the people living in the interior and tribal dominated areas.
The tribal forum urged people, truck and transports’ associations and Civil Society Organisations to cooperate with AMTDGF to make successful their agitation.
They cautioned the people to remain alert of “vested organisations masquerading to be service messengers of tribals and trying to mislead and confuse the people of the state through social media”.
“The forum had submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister N. Biren Singh on October 10 demanding to release adequate funds sanctioned under MGNREGA by the Union Rural Development Ministry.
