‘Waive excise duty if ex-servicemen buy a truck’
Delhi-based Agrawal Movers, dubbed to be the largest player in household shifting, has demanded that government should waive excise duty if an ex-serviceman purchases a truck to start a business. The exemption should, however, be limited to a single truck. “This will prompt many retired personnel to start a transport business. Agrawal Movers Group can hire 500 such trucks into its fleet in a single year itself,” said the company’s chairman Ramesh Agrawal.
An ex-serviceman himself, Agrawal had mooted the proposal during the national meet of Rashtriya Sainik Sanstha (RSS), held at Nagpur on Sunday. RSS, an association of ex-servicemen, has accepted the proposal and will take up the matter with the concerned authorities, he said.
Agrawal told TOI that the company also plans to invest 100 crore in manufacturing transport cubes which, it claims, can change the entire business dynamics. “At present, a number of goods of sensitive nature like food and pharmaceuticals are damaged while handling. Often goods from one truck has to be shifted to another vehicle in case of breakdown. This at times leads to the goods getting damaged during such shifting, though the consumers still get the same commodity,” said Agrawal.
The group plans to have cubes of different sizes fitted in the vehicles, which can protect the goods within from exposure. The pharmaceutical consignments will be put in ventilated cubes. The cubes will do away the need of storing the cargo in closed godowns too, he said.
