CMIA seeks creation of truck terminal

The region’s industry body has urged the chief minister to look into the creation of a ‘Transport Nagar’ as an accessory to the booming business and industrial growth in the city.

Chamber of Marathwada Industries and Agriculture (CMIA) president Ashish Garde said, “Aurangabad is an important business centre for industries and trade. The goods required for industries and trade are mainly transported through trucks. Hence, there is very heavy traffic of trucks, almost 4000 to 5000 vehicles every day. This is causing critical problems such as traffic congestion, parking problems for transport vehicles, sound and air pollution and increase in number of road accidents.”
“There are more than 500 goods transport agents, transport companies operating in and around Aurangabad. Their offices are located at various locations in the city and MIDC area around Aurangabad. On account of No Entry restrictions for trucks in the city, they face huge problems in conducting their day to day business,” he said.
“The issue of identification of land for the establishment of a truck terminal at Aurangabad is being followed up with all the concerned government officials for the last 15 years by Aurangabad Goods Transport Association and this important matter and the infrastructural need has still remained unresolved,” he said.
