Longest container ships berths at Visakhapatnam Port
The Visakhapatnam Port received the longest container vessels so far, the 318-m long MV Maersk Sebarok.
The container vessel berthed at the Visakha Container on Friday. The ship has a carrying capacity of 6648 containers.
The 292.2- m long M.V.Maersk Dalton, which called on VCT during November 02, 2010, was the longest vessel till date.
On the occasion, VCT organised a brief function on board the ship where VPT Deputy Chairman P.L. Haranadh handed over the silver salver to the Captain of the ship.
He said that “This is indeed beginning of a new era at VCT that is all geared for growth.”
He congratulated the Marine Department of VPT, VCT management and the staff of the vessel on making it a smooth affair.
As volumes from Vizag are growing at a reasonable phase, shipping lines prefer to deploy bigger vessels that would substantially reduce tariff, also prove economical for the entire supply chain, a spokesperson of VCTPL said in a statement issued here.
