AIMTC urges trucks to cease operations in Kerala

The All India Motor Transport Congress (AIMTC) has called for truck drivers across the country to stop operations to Kerala from April 1, condemned the state government for not fulfilling their demand of upgrading the Wayalar check-post.

The truckers’ associations had earlier called for the upgradation of the check-post, alleging that it takes around 10-20 hours for a vehicle to cross it, resulting in loss of time and revenue.

In 2014, the AIMTC met Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and demanded that the number of checking counters be increased to 10, in order to reduce the clearance time. They had also demanded a priority checking for trucks transporting vegetables and other perishable items.

The South Zone Motor Transporters Welfare Association has also joined the AIMTC in the protest and together they have stated that the strike would not be called off till their demands are met.
