India can build 30 km of highways in a day in two year’s time
The Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, said, the country would be able to achieve the target of building 30 kilometer (km) of highways a day in another two years as the government has rationalised the execution of highway projects worth INR 1.50 lakh crore after getting environmental and other clearances.
Speaking on the sidelines of an interactive session here, the Minister said that his Ministry would adopt the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) model where project execution was not possible through the Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode.
He also said that more emphasis would be given to transporting goods and materials through inland waterways whose share of the total traffic today in the country is just 0.5%.
