BENGALURU:Truck drivers in the state have called off their strike till June 27 after they spoke to an official from the office of the Union Minister for Transport.

Channa Reddy, president of Federation of Karnataka Lorry Owners, said the official had informed them that the minister concerned will not be available till June 27, and requested them to suspend the strike till then. Reddy added that the official had verbally agreed to reduce the premium on third party insurance, which was one of the drivers’ demands.

The decision was taken following a meeting between members from truck drivers’ associations from different parts of the state here on Thursday. The strike began on Monday as a protest against high diesel prices, high rates of third-party insurance premium and high rates of toll collected on highways. However, supply of essential commodities such as food and water had not been affected by the strike.
