Union budget is round the corner and everyone is ready with their wishlist. Logistic players expect petrol and diesel price to come under GST. Also, at the same time, transporters are hopeful of the e-way bill as it will help in ease of doing of business.

Bal Malkit Singh, former president & chairman Core Committee, AIMTC, said: “Petroleum prices should be regulated. We can see the prices of diesel and petrol have touched the peak and crude oil is on the lower side. We are also hopeful that petrol and diesel should be brought under GST. The uniformity in prices across the country will not help us to stabilizing the cost, but it will also make it affordable.”

He also added, “We are hopeful that the e-way bill will help the logistics business in the long run. There would be initial hiccups at the time of implementation but it comes with great benefits.”

Experts suggest that after its implementation, transporters will not have to visit any check-post for generation of the e-way bill in the movement of goods from one state to other. Moreover, there would be no waiting time at the checkpoint and faster movement of goods thereby optimum use of vehicles since there is no check post in GST regime.

Panna Lal Khaitan, chairman, Khaitan Logistics, said, “The e-way bill is wonderful but should be implemented all over in true spirit. We expect logistic cos should be treated like any other business and not otherwise.”

Highlighting problems of toll-tax collection, Singh said, “There should be alternative toll collection policy. A lot of cost and time consumed while paying the toll. RFID tag or fastag system will not be successful as there are no dedicated lanes.”

Supporting Singh’s comment, Khaitan said, “States are targeting RTOs and in turn, they are harassing truck drivers and are collecting fines without any violation.”
