Steps to help owners of commercial vehicles

NEW DELHI: Delhi government’s transport department has introduced a slew of measures to help owners of commercial vehicles in the city, one of the biggest ones being converting a commercial vehicle to a private one.
“In case the owner of a taxi or other commercial vehicle applies for a change of use, its fitness may be checked as a private vehicle. The registration certificate will be converted to private category and a new registration number would be issued simultaneously,” a transport department official said.
In case of stolen commercial vehicles, the department will levy penalty for late fitness up to the date of FIR and in such cases, where fitness is not feasible, provisions will be made in the software where fitness will not be applicable in such cases.
In case of an applicant seeking NOC to transfer his/her vehicle to another state, the municipal corporation’s parking charges will not be made applicable. However, one month parking charges may be deposited as the validity of NOC would only be for 30 days.
“In order to prevent misuse of this facility, the fitness will be granted only for one month. If the owner does not register his/her vehicle in another state, the NOC and fitness will be deemed expired,” the official added.
