The notices to the two authorities came on a plea filed by advocate Amit Sahni. The advocate had highlighted the absence of basic facilities on Western Peripheral Expressway or Kundli-Manesar-Pawal (KMP) Expressway. The highway was made operational about two years ago.

The petitioner also claimed that he had made representation to NHAI to provide the facilities, but no action was taken on his plea.

According to a report in Times of India, the Court has sought answers from National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) on the same.

A bench of Chief Justice Rajendra Menon and Justice A J Bhambhani has listed the matter for next hearing on August 26.

According to the petitioner, only partial facilities are available on the Eastern Peripheral Expressways (EPE) or Kundli-Ghaziabad–Palwal expressway. The EPE was inaugurated by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi in November 2018.

“Directions may kindly be passed that the wayside amenities be planned and developed along with national highways and such amenities be made operational by the respondent for all its future projects before starting of toll collection on all such highways, to ensure safety and security of the commuters,” the report quoted the from the plea to the court.

Both the Eastern and Western Peripheral Expressways are expected to divert over 50,000 heavy vehicles away from the National Capital there by reducing pollution in a big way.

The petitioner has also sought a direction to officials to ensure basic facilities like petrol pumps, ambulance, toilet complex eateries and police patrolling vans on both expressways.

The petitioner also said that National Highways connected to Delhi have facilities like helplines for crane, ambulance, route patrol and that the same should be extended to the two highways.
